...Tompolo campaigning for Tinubu means failure in the region. No citizen will want to vote for a President who engages terrorists, takes people hostage, and abuses them
.......As Group Demands Immediate Termination of Tompolo Tantita Security Contracts Amid Allegations of Human Rights Violations
A storm is brewing in the Niger Delta as the Niger Delta People Mandate has issued a scathing indictment of Government Ekpemupolo, widely known as Tompolo, and his security firm, Tantita Security Services. The group is urgently appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately terminate the contract with Tantita, citing a litany of grave allegations including human rights abuses, human trafficking, modern-day slavery, and the gruesome beheading of Nigerian citizens.
Speaking on behalf of the Niger Delta People Mandate, spokesperson Ebimene Tokowei stated, "The Presidency must distance itself from Tompolo and his Tantita Security. Their reputation in the region is one of terror and impunity." Tokowei went on to warn that any association with Tompolo would be detrimental to President Tinubu's standing in the Niger Delta. "Tompolo campaigning for Tinubu means failure in the region. No citizen will want to vote for a President who engages terrorists, takes people hostage, and abuses them," Tokowei declared, referencing numerous victims who have reportedly filed lawsuits accusing Tompolo and Tantita of crimes against humanity.
The group further alleges that Tompolo's support for Tinubu during the election was a facade. "Tompolo never worked for him to come into power but worked against him," Tokowei asserted. "As we speak, Tompolo is working with the opposition to gain face, as he likely knows he has lost relevance in the region."
The Niger Delta People Mandate is urging President Tinubu to adopt a more inclusive approach to security in the region, calling for the engagement of other leaders in the Niger Delta struggle in their respective states for surveillance operations. They specifically demand the disengagement of Tantita Security Services from Delta State, advocating for the appointment of a new entity to oversee the Delta Ijaw axis while empowering other tribes within Delta State.
"Tompolo is like a cancer in the region and will bring bad omen to the Presidency," Tokowei warned, suggesting that engaging with such a "notorious figure" could damage Nigeria's international reputation. The group further alleges that Tompolo continues to operate a private prison, holding individuals such as Charles Korubo and Bala Karowei against their will, and implores authorities to intervene.
Adding to the gravity of the accusations, Tompolo, who ostensibly is tasked with safeguarding oil facilities and combating illegal oil dealings, now stands accused of being deeply involved in the illicit trade himself. "Today, Nigeria is losing a large percentage of our crude to oil thieves, with Tompolo spearheading the illegal exploitation of our national resources," Tokowei stated, painting a picture of a man entrusted with protecting Nigeria's wealth allegedly orchestrating its plunder. The allegations by the Niger Delta People Mandate paint a grim picture of Tompolo's activities and pose a serious challenge to President Tinubu's administration.
